From Computer-2 to Computer-1

In my own little Crisis on Infinite Earths, I now have my old computer up and running again.
So now I have two computers, which alternately share the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Why?

So I can play Star Wars Galaxies again.

My friends are getting back into it and I kinda miss it.

Old computer (from Earth-2): 633 processor, 14 GB harddrive, 256MB (SD)ram, 64mb Nvidia graphics card (PCI)
New computer (from Earth-1): 2.8 processor, 40 GB harddrive, 64MB (DD)ram, no video card (weird PCI(?) slot)

Old computer will be used solely for gaming, new computer for everything else.
Too bad I couldn't combine the two.

What Treasures I Got -CDs

Well, I seemed to have used up my 90 downloads from E-Music.
:-)

So for $20, I got the following:

Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Pinback - Offcell
The Decemderists - Picaresque
Bottom of the Hudson - The Omaha Record
Various Artists - Brain Candy: Music From the Motion Picture Soundtrack
Various Artists - Renaissance Greats

That's six albums.
Not too shabby.

There's still quite a few albums not available (most notably anything from Sub Pop Records), so I don't think it's going to stop me from buying physical cds.
However, with so many albums that are available and the distance of the record shop...
It may be a while before I do pick up another physical cd.

Shiny!

Today I dug out my original VHS recordings of Firefly. I have the DVDs and have almost forgotten that I still had these tapes.

Anyway, I'm going to let someone borrow them to try to hook more people on the series.

Meanwhile, check out these pages from the Serenity movie comic adaptation:

Sin City 2 Revealed

Robert Rodriguez has announced that the sequel to Sin City will be based on A Dame to Kill For.

So Close, Yet...

One of the things that bothers me the most with the comic industry's preoccupation with preordering is that most books aren't detailed enough in the solicits and preview pages aren't available until sometime after preordering is done.

There's been quite a few books that I've missed out on simply because they didn't supply enough info back when it was originally solicited. When you don't see anything that grabs your attention until after the preorder deadline you miss the boat.

Especially in the case of independent comics.

Take for instance El Arsenal: Unknown Enemy #1, coming in July from Arcana Studios.

I had seen the cover art in Previews and the solicit got me interested... but just not enough to get me hooked.

So now we have, almost two weeks after the Previews order cut-off date, a nice three-page preview up over at Comics Continuum.

Yes, preordering can be good. But it can also have unexpected side-effects.
Like missing out on an interesting looking title and having to go out of your way to either order direct from the publisher or hit up E-bay.
Or... just chalk it up to another missed opportunity and let it go.

Alan says, "No Moore!"

Alan Moore, co-creator of the "V For Vendetta" comic, has publicly disassociated himself from the upcoming Warner Brothers movie project based on the comic book and written and produced by the Wachowski Brothers. And as a result, he has cut his remaining ties with DC Comics, including future volumes of the "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen."

Moore has promised future "League" comics will be published by a US/UK collaboration between Top Shelf and Knockabout.

Go to Lying in the Gutters for more juicy info!

I really think it was his distaste of the the new DC logo...

Of course, popular opinion is that he was only working with DC to fulfill his contract he had started with Wildstorm. Supposedly, he's been waiting for a chance to bail ever since they got bought.
I like the man's work but I wouldn't put it past him.
And I do admire him for putting out good work even when he wasn't where he wanted to be.
